If ya don't want comments to your BLOG turn them off...
05.12.04 (3:50 pm)   [edit]
Now I have a gripe to share...

It seems that I have been blacklisted for posting a few comments on some blogs.

This pisses me off because it was not spam and the posts were genuine responses to what I read in the blogs.

All I did was use my web site name as my name and linked to my site. Is that so bad?

Apparently some juvenile bloggers are so anal about people posting urls on their blogs that they are blindly penalizing and blacklisting people because they felt violated.

Give me a friggin' break! I say the more comments the better on my blog and hey go ahead and pimp your URL - who cares? As long as your message isn't about Viagra or putting inches on your tool, I don't care if you drop a plug in for your site - if the comments are relevant that's ok with me.

This goes for forums too. I have seen hostility directed at people who make legit posts and they get shit because they included a url in the post or a signature. So what? What is wrong with self promotion?

If you ask me it's the old abuse of power thing... give an idiot too much power and they will abuse it - just like with the Iraqi prisoners being humiliated... Some assholes simply can't help berating or punishing other people. They do it because it makes them feel superior. They crave the power.

They must have been the kids cravig attention and not getting it.

[b]Look at me look at me! Please someone notice me[/b]

I say get a friggin' life anal blog people and don't sweat the details. Be kind to your visitors.

Be kind to the people that visit your web site. Be kind to the people who take the time to write worthwhile comments in your blog or forum.

Don't go and bad mouth people who you disagree with.

And if you don't want the PUBLIC to look at your blog, much less comment... then post a notice that says FRIENDS ONLY or something to that effect. Otherwise assume it will be looked at and commented upon.

Karma will come back to haunt you.

#1 cardinal rule is just do unto others as you would have dem do unto u.

Be nice. Can't we all just get along??? Get off the power trip and be a productive member of society! Get a job as a cop, or prison guard.... Sorry, there are good people doing those jobs.

OK, enough of this rant. Time for you to tell me where to stick it!

Googles Policy about COMMENTS and whythey use redirects to protect PageRank
05.12.04 (3:24 pm)   [edit]
I am copying and pasting this help doc article from Google in full regarding their blogger service. It sheds a bit of light on how they feel about comment spam and artificially increased PageRank tm.

The complete unaltered text is as follows. Please share your thought and drop some comments on this blog. Thanks!

OK boys and girls, here it is:

Why do links on blogger.com (and in comments) redirect through google.com and blogger.com?

You may notice that many of the links on the site go through redirects before sending you to the link's final destination. This also happens when links are put in comments.

Sometimes, these links go to a page (on google.com) that shows the URL to which you're being redirected. Sometimes, it just goes through a blogger.com URL that is more transparent (and faster). There are three separate reasons for this:

Content posted via Blogger-in-Google. Much of the content on Blogger is not published with Blogger itself—but with an installation on the Google intranet. This install has a feature that obscures all links via a redirect in order to remove the referrer—a fairly common practice on intranet sites, so people outside don't have visibility into what you're pointing to or the names of internal sites and pages.

PageRank-flow fairness. Since blogger.com is linked from google.com, any sites we link to could pass on a fairly high PageRank value. (PageRank is one of the factors that determines what results show up in what order for searches.) In order to remove any possibility of unequal ranking of Blogger-powered blogs in the Google main search index, we send links through a URL from which Google knows to ignore PageRank. This way, Blogger blogs earn PageRank only on the basis of their content and other people linking to them, not because they're powered by a tool owned by Google.

Comment spam protection. The third place redirects show up is in comments. Any tag is altered to go through the same URL that doesn't pass on PageRank. This is to protect our users from comment spam—unwanted comments on your site that don't contribute to the discussion, but rather are placed for the comment author's benefit. A big motivation for people to comment spam is so the link they put in the comment will be crawled by Google and potentially increase their PageRank. Comment spamming for PageRank will simply not work via Blogger comments thanks to this redirect.

My New Ploggle Blog is Reality TV - a LINKING MACHINE!!!
05.01.04 (2:29 pm)   [edit]
Reality TV is the enjoyment of watching OTHER PEOPLES MISERY

Check out my Reality TV Photoblog

If you join ploggle let me know and we can exchange links.

If ya ask me this ploggle thang is an excellent opportunity to get a highly linked high pagerank blog - photoblog, but there is a snag...

The default setting of ploggle hides your links... in fact everything is hidden in JAVA but don't despair... I'd be happy to show ya how a few tweaks in the ploggle admin will get your blog so it shows HTML source properly (search engine friendly) and your comments will even be able to show proper links.
Very important if you want your links crawled and hey - what better reason to set up a ploggle accunt! get your links out der!

Another ingenius trick compliments of yours truly! Hope you take advantage of it!

Hmmm... not really strictly link related, but rather webmaster related blog this will be.

And as link popularity is so friggin' important these days - the discussion of link exchange strategies will abound her at LINK EXCHANGE (did I get the right keyword density yet???).

So who am I you may be asking?

My name is Mick and I am known as the Electric Weasel. I have been doing the web thang for 9 years now.

I'll be braggin' a bit here and there as we go along but more importantly I hope to share some of my winning strategies with other fellow web slaves and maybe gleam a bit of brilliance from the community.

Let's trade links and while we're at it... let's go to bed.
